Week 7 – Thursday

SCRIPTURE
Ephesians 6:16-17 ESV  “In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

REFLECT
The ultimatum here is powerful! “In ALL circumstances” – our faith in Christ Jesus, our Lord carries us through everything. It is our shield. It is our protection from all the fiery darts of Satan. We don’t have to receive those darts! We have a FAITH that is anchored in the solid Rock. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and our faith in that fact alone is enough to thwart those darts that are constantly headed our way. Our final pieces of armor, the helmet and the Sword, are like the climax of this Scripture. The Salvation, that is ours in Christ, caps off our entire battle regalia. It is the reason we have strength, grace, and power. Jesus’ work on the cross made all of this possible. Finally, the Sword…you can’t fight a battle without a sword. We have the best, sharpest, most potent sword there ever was. In Hebrews 4:12 we are told, “the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” How’s your faith today? Remember this is a daily battle, and it’s never weak to need a recharge. Run to Him often, to “adjust your armor!”

We invite you to share your insights and thoughts by leaving a comment below or by replying to another comment.

If you would like, you can unpack the verse S.O.A.P style:
S = Scripture; what is it that I’m reflecting upon.
O = Observation; what does this mean to me, what do I notice?  What got my attention? Can I rephrase this in my own words?
A = Application; how can I apply this into my life?  What action can I take as a result of what I just learned
P = Prayer; based on what I’ve learned and my application/action, pray – talk to God about your insight, ask for help, offer thanksgiving.

S: Ephesians 6:16-17 ESV “In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

O: We are given further instructions. We put on the FULL armor of God which includes the shield of faith to be used in ALL circumstances, which can extinguish ALL the flaming darts of the evil. That is POWERFUL — this covers our heart!! The helmet of salvation — this protects our minds — we cannot function properly without a clear sound mind — without hope — we can live with a broken arm or a broken foot, but not a broken head. This is crucial protection we must pay attention to what goes on inside our mind. The Word of God SPEAKS — this is our sword, our truth, what will stand the test of times — this is the book of promise — our book of life.

A: ALL are important…every piece we must choose daily to put on — clothes ourselves in — we must choose to wear protection. When we do our part…we are teaming up with the Almighty. He has equipped each and everyone of us to do this.

P: Father, thank You for giving us the tools to help us, protect us, and keep us safe. Thank You for the free gift of salvation — thank You for loving me just as I am. Thank You for showing me how I can improve to become who You want me to be. I am filled with gratitude for all the little blessings You show me. I choose to put on the FULL armor Father, keep showing me what that looks like for me in my life. Open my eyes to see, my ears to hear, and my heart to know what steps I need to take. I need Your protection always — I need Your shelter. You know each battle that I face Father — You understand where I am at this very minute. You know what lies ahead, how overwhelmed I feel with the unknowns. You have quipped me to do what you’re calling me to do — lead me TODAY and everyday — show me my next step, help me to rest in You and trust in You completely. May the work that I do and the things that I spend my time doing be those that you would have me do…help me Father to NOT get distracted with the mundane to escape what I fear. Order my thoughts today that I may be productive — may others see You when they see me. I need You desperately — give me strength today. Give me enough. I love you. t
