Week 4 – Monday

Matthew 6:33 NIV “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

We have acknowledged who God is, what our relationship is with Him, and the greatness of our Father through the first 3 weeks.  Now we are asking Him to do something.  We are asking for His Kingdom to come to us, His dominion; sovereignty.  The way He would have it.  Essentially, this clause is a surrender statement.  We are yielding to Him, resigning to His will.  What does surrender look like to you?  Do you see this as a sign of weakness or strength?

We invite you to share your insights and thoughts by leaving a comment below or by replying to another comment.

If you would like, you can unpack the verse S.O.A.P style:
S = Scripture; what is it that I’m reflecting upon.
O = Observation; what does this mean to me, what do I notice?  What got my attention? Can I rephrase this in my own words?
A = Application; how can I apply this into my life?  What action can I take as a result of what I just learned
P = Prayer; based on what I’ve learned and my application/action, pray – talk to God about your insight, ask for help, offer thanksgiving.

    Surrender = FREEDOM!

    S: Matthew 6:33 NIV “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

    O: What does He want? What’s right in His eyes? What would put a smile on His face? These questions should be TOP OF MIND for us each moment as we live our daily lives. With each decision, big or small, we should ask Him — thy kingdom come, thy will be done — here in my life, in this situation, on earth as You Father would have it in heaven — THEN ALL these things {everything that we need} will be given {freely given to us as gifts} to you as well. These things? Love, Joy, Peace, contentment, understanding, knowledge, wisdom <– these are the things that matter, fruits of the Spirit. “Things” will also be material things, but those are secondary to what is essential for us to experience Heaven here on earth.

    A: May He continue to be my 911 — my main focus — my reason for living — my audience of ONE! I desire to seek Him first in ALL areas of my life, not just selective parts that seem to be a little easier than others or less painful.

    P: Father, thank You for your faithfulness. I am in awe of how significantly You show up when I do my part. It isn’t always easy, thank You for walking with me and for giving me the strength to pursue your will, your plan, your purpose for my life. Forgive me when I stray or when I do things that are not pleasing to you. Open my eyes to see my areas of weakness, areas that need improvement. If there is something that I need to surrender that I’m holding tightly in my hands — Lord reveal it to me. I need you and want your kingdom to come in every aspect of my life. Thank you for the priceless gifts you’ve given me. I love you. T

    Our first priority as believers is to always ‘consult’ with the great counselor…our Lord…our heavenly Father. He wants us to come to Him for everything…and simply pray about it. big or little things, it’s all important to God. When we seek Him first, we have a promise of what we will get in return.

    when i go to God for my every need, when I seek Him first, i can find a peace in all that happens from there after. I can rely on Him to make my paths straight even when things happen that make no sense. many times i have gone Him in prayer over situations and in hindsight, watched trials befall…and yet, i have a peace in them all because i know i saught Him will for me in the decision making process – even before i moved forward on the path.

    Heavenly Father, thank you that we can surrender our own will and just rest in your will and all that you have for us. help me to feel peace in these situations, and accept when things / people / relationships don’t turn out as I prayed they would. I have the peace and joy in knowing that as i seek you first and foremost, i will be ok. no matter the outcome. thank you for that Father….help me to always put you first in all i do / pray / say / act upon. i love you xo
