The Lord’s Prayer: Week 3 – Thursday

WELCOME! If you’re new and just joining us, start here — if not, read below…

Week 3 – Thursday

SCRIPTURE
Proverbs 18:10 NIV “The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.”

REFLECT
Safety. Refuge. Protection. We find it all in His name. In Scripture, when the name of the LORD is in all caps, it is referring to His Hebrew name.  This name, YAHWEH, is the same name we saw on Monday in Exodus 3:14 (“I AM”).  This name is the most personal name for God. It is the most intimate, the most familiar. It is how He wants us to think of Him. He is our Father, He is our Abba, He is YAHWEH. How is your relationship with your LORD (all caps) today? Run to Him. Find refuge and relief in Him.

We invite you to share your insights and thoughts by leaving a comment below or by replying to another comment.

If you would like, you can unpack the verse S.O.A.P style:
S = Scripture; what is it that I’m reflecting upon.
O = Observation; what does this mean to me, what do I notice?  What got my attention? Can I rephrase this in my own words?
A = Application; how can I apply this into my life?  What action can I take as a result of what I just learned
P = Prayer; based on what I’ve learned and my application/action, pray – talk to God about your insight, ask for help, offer thanksgiving.

He is such a SOLID foundation!!

S: Proverbs 18:10 NIV “The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.”

O: Again, looking at another version to help me unpack this verse, Message says, “God’s name is a place of protection—good people can run there and be safe.” We are protected under God — when we are walking with Him and living in His will. Righteous means good, honest, upright, faithful. When our heart’s desire is to do what’s right when we seek Him first, He is our strong tower. I believe that even when we “mess-up” choose to live our own selfish ways, He remains available and open for us to come back into His strong tower, His protection, His plan. However, we reap what we sow — so during these “wilderness” times we may suffer consequences for our behavior — BUT with His strength, mercy, and grace we can persevere regardless.

A: Strong Tower — Protector. I never want to be out from under His wing. For me to rest safely with Him, I must abide in Him daily. Walk with Him, seeking His will first. He needs to forever be my audience of ONE! He is my shelter, my umbrella, my shield.

P: Father, thank you for this reminder today…YOU are my protection. I simply need to call upon Your holy name. Walking with You has been the most amazing journey — thank You for allowing me to RUN into your safety after many many years of living in the wilderness. In You alone if find peace, joy, rest. You continue to bless me beyond my wildest imagination — thank YOU sweet Jesus for the gift of salvation, I needed freedom and I’ve found that walking with You. My heart is filled with gratitude — I have a smile on my face — may Your light shine through me today as I live and interact with others — may others see You when they meet me. I love You. T

    O
so many deserts. so many times lost. so many times i thirst. i hunger. alone…the vast hole in my heart feels hollow…so hollow it will implode, i fear…and swallow me up. this is world is shifting sand…a desert…my feet hurt from the journey…my soul aches with longing for shade. my GOD is a strong tower, in which i run…I no longer thirst. no longer hunger. i am safe. i am loved. my FATHER’s home is GOOD. I am HOME.

    A
I do not need to thirst, or hunger. this world will leave me empty. broken. alone. but not my FATHER. HE gives me everything i need. HE is my ALL, my everything. my strong tower. I will keep this knowledge locked in my heart….and when the deserts come, i will run back into HIS place of shelter and drink in HIS cool waters, and be refreshed.

    P
Abba Father…you are all i need. YOU are the stream in my desert, and i call to you like a lost child…my feet placed firmly in your WORD. YOUR promises will be my guide, my rock. I love you Father. thank you for being so intimate with me. for ‘getting’ me…..for creating me. lead me – show me your love. speak to me in my dreams, my heart, my inner most quietest of places. i need you LORD. i am so in love with you that i ache….xo

I FEEL the I am HOME with my Father too Shelbi –> keeping this knowledge LOCKED in my HEART, not in my head is crucial. So often we know this, right? BUT feeling it is completely different.

I’m sitting here reading your prayer and the song Hold Me by Jamie Grace just popped into my mind…I love the way You {Father God} hold me. He “gets” me. He “gets” you. He understands us individually, He’s our creator and knows our every detail.

I LOVE your SOAPs friend…so so so encouraging and insightful. What a blessing YOU are in my life. Love you!

S: “The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe.” Proverbs 18:10 NLT

O: Safety in our Lord is what I cling to constantly. His name only needs to be called, and we are safe. It always boggles my mind how people walk in this world without having that. In my brightest and my darkest days, I cling to this.

A: I need to continue in a daily walk where I am showing others what it is like to have this faith. I need to share it freely and not hold back. Sometimes it is hard to show and talk about this in front of the ungodly, but they need this. I need to show them tower of refuge in my life.

P: Father, thank you for being there at all times. I just need to call to you, call out your name and I am safe from everything. We walk daily in a world of darkness with an enemy lurking. Father give me boldness to share your light and salt in this world and help others to find the refuge I have in you. Thank you Father.

    • Teri says:

Me too, me too — I cling to His safety constantly. It’s the ONLY place I’ve found for genuine comfort, ALWAYS.

I agree we need to be a light. I’m a BIG believer of attraction NOT promotion. These words come to mind, Father, let my words be few — let others see YOU by how I live.

Thank YOU for sharing Terry…I hope you had a GREAT week!! Be THE light…love Your heart! =)
