The Lord’s Prayer: Week 2 – Wednesday

WELCOME! If you’re new and just joining us, start here — if not, read below…

Week 2 – Wednesday

SCRIPTURE
Luke 17:20-21 MSG  “Jesus, grilled by the Pharisees on when the kingdom of God would come, answered, “The kingdom of God doesn’t come by counting the days on the calendar. Nor when someone says, ‘Look here!’ or, ‘There it is!’ And why? Because God’s kingdom is already among you.”

REFLECT
Where is the location of our Father?  Jesus tells us in this Scripture that those of us who are in the family of God possess His kingdom inside of us.  When we accept Christ into our hearts and our lives, the Holy Spirit dwells within us.  Jesus Christ is called Immanuel, which means “God with us.”  We can experience His presence now, with us, each day.  Our lives should point to His kingdom.  Others should see His kingdom in the way you live everyday.  What are others seeing by your life?  In your work.  In your relationships.  Through your circumstances.  Through your experiences?

We invite you to share your insights and thoughts by leaving a comment below or by replying to another comment.

If you would like, you can unpack the verse S.O.A.P style:
S = Scripture; what is it that I’m reflecting upon.
O = Observation; what does this mean to me, what do I notice?  What got my attention? Can I rephrase this in my own words?
A = Application; how can I apply this into my life?  What action can I take as a result of what I just learned
P = Prayer; based on what I’ve learned and my application/action, pray – talk to God about your insight, ask for help, offer thanksgiving.

    My reflection….

S: Luke 17:20-21 MSG “Jesus, grilled by the Pharisees on when the kingdom of God would come, answered, “The kingdom of God doesn’t come by counting the days on the calendar. Nor when someone says, ‘Look here!’ or, ‘There it is!’ And why? Because God’s kingdom is already among you.”

O: The NIV version says, “…the Kingdom of God is within you.” Again, this brings His realm, reign, rule, sovereignty, sphere here to us on earth. We can experience Him in us and we can experience Him through us — through others. This is the Holy Spirit working in people, in relationships. This is God working today, now, in the hearts of His children. Kingdom “heaven” is the presence of God. There is no boundary to His territory, His playing field. He is everywhere, His Spirit is alive and at work.

A: There’s nothing to work for. Heaven is a place, but it is also for us to experience today as we live, move, and have our being in HIM!! He is heaven, we can embrace His sovereignty by living and walking with Him daily.

P: Father, open my eyes to see You and Your Kingdom, open my ears to hears to hear Your goodness and You speaking to me, and my heart to know Your will for my life, Your plan as I walk with You. Thank You for Your unconditional love and provision over me and my family. My hearts is full of gratitude and joy. Things are not perfect, there are many situations that I would like to see different. But Jesus, I trust in Your timing, in Your plan — give me patience, help me to be more patient and understanding — I want to love others how You love. Lead me, guide me. Forgive me for my selfishness yesterday, for projecting my agenda upon someone else that I love. I’m sorry. I need You desperately Lord. Today is a new day…lets do this — direct my path, give me the words to say that I may be a light into the lives of others. Shine through me. I love you. T

      Teri,
You mentioned your agenda…I deal with this so much. I get these ideas, plans in my head….and I think so selfishly. So, as I pray for me, I will remember you as well. I will be praying that we will not try to reign over time, plans, ideas….but that our all-knowing, all-loving, wise Father will reign, and that He will help us to submit to His will. Thank you so much for your words, and for following His agenda in creating this study and putting it out there. I am so thankful God has brought us together.

You’re SO sweet Terry!! I appreciate your prayers, It’s so easy for our “will” to surface — minute by minute sometimes I have to surrender. It is GREAT to get to “know” you here — what a special gift!! I love how the internet/technology is bringing GEMS into my life to grow and learn with. Thank YOU for participating, I know there are people reading and not commenting — they are learning from our willingness to share what’s on our heart. Seeds are being planted. =)

  2. Rebekah says:

S: Luke 17:20-21 NIV “Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is within you.”

O: This is yet another reminder to me of the GIFT we have been given. We have God’s KINGDOM inside of us! He lives there, in our hearts. We don’t have to look for it and wonder if we have found it. If we’ve accepted the free gift of Salvation through faith in Christ Jesus we have His kingdom, His blessing, His PRESENCE is always with us. If I am open and surrendured to Him, He will accomplish the work He has called me to. I don’t have to do anything alone and in my own strength. God will never call me to do anything I cannot accomplish with His strength and in His presence.

A: I must be open. I must be sure there is nothing between my me and my Father that will keep me from experiencing the full benefit of His presence in my life. Like Teri said, I need to embrace his sovereignty in my lilfe. He is all-knowing, all-powerful, and He will never leave me. I can trust Him, and I must CHOOSE to trust Him perfectly and completely.

P: Heavenly Father, I need to feel your presence today. I need to hear you and feel you. Help me to give you full reign in my life. Help me not get in the way; help me not give in to even the slightest thought that would put a barrier between us. Thank you for being sovereign, for being LOVE. I love you…

    • Teri says:

AMEN –> God will NEVER call me to do anything I cannot accomplish with His strength and in His presence <– He equips us!!

  3. Terry says:

S:”One day the Pharisees asked Jesus, ‘When will the kingdom of God come?’ Jesus replied, “The kingdom of God can’t be detected by visible signs. You won’t be able to say, Here it is, or Its over there! For the kingdom of God is already among you.” Luke 17:20, 21(NLT)

O: When I think of a kingdom, I think of a reign, someone to rule over. And when I look at this scripture I see these men looking for this visible sign….but we know that that kingdom, resides in our hearts if we have allowed, our King has taken the throne. That kingdom has been established in our hearts. It is among us, and we need to accept it and make it a part of our lives.

A: I must remember, until I leave this earth, I have that battle within me. I like the Pharisees can get caught up in all that is human. Looking at things from that point of view. I have to keep my eyes on the kingdom that lives within me. I need to be reminded, that is what others are wanting and needing to see in me. I need others, like you here, to talk to, grow with, pray with….helping each other to remember the things of God. I am thankful that God has called us together.

P: Thank you Father again, for your holiness and your mightiness…and for your intimate relationship with me. You who are so mighty, residing here with me, loving me and seeing me through this. Help me Father to allow others to see you within my life. Help me as I battle with my own selfishness and pride. Thank you Father for bringing this group together, giving us your word, and allowing us to pray for one another, grow together and share in your kingdom. We know there is an enemy who seeks to hide this kingdom. Stand guard in our hearts, minds and souls Lord. Protect this kingdom and help us to proclaim it. I love you Father, and I thank you Father.

    • Teri says:

I agree Terry, we need others — it’s SO crucial isn’t if for our spiritual growth? I need others to speak truth into my life, hold me accountable and be willing to call me out when my “human-ness” steps UP!!
