Week 2 – Monday

Psalm 139:7-10 NIV “Where can I go from your Spirit?  Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.”

Heaven is a real physical place, but Emmet Fox also points out that God is the entity of Heaven and that wherever He is there is a little piece of Heaven, not in the literal sense, but the figurative. This entire Psalm speaks of the OMNIPRESENCE of our God. He is always with us wherever we go, whatever we do.  He will never ever leave us, and even if we tried our hardest to get away from Him we wouldn’t succeed. What a comfort! To know that nothing we do will separate us from God, our Father. He is in Heaven where we will someday join Him forever, yet He abides in our hearts.  He goes wherever we go, experiences what we go through. He’s there.  He desires us to lean on Him.  Does He dwell within you?  Do you feel His presence in your daily life?

We invite you to share your insights and thoughts by leaving a comment below or by replying to another comment.

If you would like, you can unpack the verse S.O.A.P style:
S = Scripture; what is it that I’m reflecting upon.
O = Observation; what does this mean to me, what do I notice?  What got my attention? Can I rephrase this in my own words?
A = Application; how can I apply this into my life?  What action can I take as a result of what I just learned
P = Prayer; based on what I’ve learned and my application/action, pray – talk to God about your insight, ask for help, offer thanksgiving.

S: Psalm 139:7-10 “I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me. and your strength support me.” (NLT)

O: For me, this scripture is a comfort. I can only think of our Father and that He is omnipresent. He is everywhere, and he is there to guide me, strengthen me, and support me. When I think of the words in the Lord’s Prayer, “who art in heaven” I think that it is showing his majesty. In the beginning of this prayer, we are approaching the throne of God in praise and admoration…and those words speak to me of his authority and his almightiness. But I know as this scriptrure says, because of who he is, our Father is everywhere, omnipresent. As I said last week, our Father is so much more than we can imagine…so attempting to completely understand this, I don’t think I can. Accepting it, easy. So this scripture points out to me his magnificence, and still his love for me. That though he is everywhere and is as mighty and unimaginagebly wonderfulas he is…he is still everywhere I am, leading, guiding, loving and strengthening me.

A: God has really been speaking to me about the very small circle I seem to sit in, and trying to get me to see the big huge world I am apart of and am called to. He wants me to do more, reach out further, and possibly prepare for a mission trip. This reminds me, wherever he calls me to, I am to go, and I am to walk in confidence. He is there with me. He will be there to guide, strengthen and support me.

P: Dear Father, I am so thankful for your mightiness. I am thankful that you sit upon a throne and are aware of everything that goes on, and that it is all in your control and power. I am thankful that in your love for me, you will walk with me, wherever I go, I will NEVER be out of your presence. I am sorry Father for sometimes feeling alone, for letting go of the knowledge of your presence. I am sorry for the times I lack the courage I should have in your omnipresence. Help me Father to discern your calling. Help me to know where you are leading me, and to go there. Help me Father to share you, not only in my small circle, but into the places you have called me to. Thank you for your guidance and strength and support you give me as we go. Thank you Father for the picture, of you always beside me.

YES, wherever he calls we can go in confidence! I love this affirmation, Terry! This is very relevant for me right now, I need to remind myself that whatever He has called me to today, whatever He has allowed into my life TODAY I am to do, endure, persevere with confidence!

How wonderful for you to have the opportunity to go on a mission trip! I had the privilege to be a part of a musical mission team one summer and it was a GREAT experience! There is nothing in this world that compares to ministering and allowing God to make us a blessing.

Good Morning Girls, a day late!! =)

Terry, this stood out to me –> Father is so much more than we can imagine <– I know!! He’s SO SO SO SO…glorious — I can’t even wrap my arms around the depth of who He is. I’m learning and growing each day and I seem to discover little nuggets of His goodness and character always. He is everywhere and In everything. Comforting….

    My thoughts this morning:

S: Psalm 139:7-10 NIV “Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.”

O: He is with me. I am never alone. He wants me to experience His presence and lean on Him. I love the questions that begin this verse. Even if I “flee” or try to run away from the presence of my Father He runs with me! I can’t get away from Him! Again, what a comfort!

A: I want to feel His presence. I hate the times when I let sin come between us. He is always there, always open; it’s up to me to lean.

P: Father in Heaven, thank you for sticking by me, thank you for carrying me and lifting me up when I fall. Thank you for not giving in to my selfish tantrums, and being the loving correction in my life as well as the cheerleader. Help me to lean on You. Help me to bask in your love and exult in your presence…

    • Terry says:

Don’t you love how he only allows us to go so far and then he pulls us back. Just like an earthly Father. I love how our week two is just building on week one of our study!

    • Teri says:

Rebekah, I agree –> it’s up to me to lean <– He’s ALWAYS there, He’s doing His job, the question is, are we? When I lean into Him, He is faithful to hold me. When I don’t — it’s sin {lies} that separate me from receiving Him.

  3. Teri says:

Catching up — yesterday was a day FULL of travel….

O: It’s so comforting to me NOW to know that He’s everywhere, a part of everything — with me always. However, I can remember as I grew up thinking about how I didn’t want Him to be watching me all the time because I was doing wrong things, and I didn’t want Him to know. =) These verses bring a smile to my face…HE will never leave me nor forsake me. No matter where I’ve been, no matter where I go, no matter what I’ve done, His Spirit is with me and available to guide me. I love the last phrase of the verse, “hold me fast” <– He’s not going to take His time and think about it, He’s right there NOW to HOLD {comfort, embrace, love} He is so GREAT like that!!

A: I get it! I want it! I embrace His love for me! Nothing I do makes Him love me more, and nothing I do makes Him love me less. He’s omnipresent, with me everywhere — even in the dark. I will continue to talk with Him throughout the day, walk with Him and reach for Him. He is BIG, He is in Heaven, but Heaven means, He’s present — and He’s living in me, with me, and through me. I want to see Him in all things, in all people, in all situations…He is there.

P: Father, You are amazing — I see You everywhere in my life, and I see you working in the lives of others. Thank You for Your promises, I find so much comfort knowing that You will never leave me, You will always be with me, even in my darkest hours, even when I’m doing things that don’t put a smile on Your face. Forgive me for those things Lord, that I do each day apart from You. I’m learning and growing and I am so grateful for your grace and mercy for me. Give me the strength to get through today. You know my heart, my desires — I need strength, I am weary. My confidence is in You alone!! Thank You for the everyday blessings, truly, I am so grateful. Lead me today, guide me, hold me fast Father. I love you. T
