Week 2 – Friday

SCRIPTURE
Colossians 1:16-17 NIV  “For in Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through Him and for Him.  He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.”

REFLECT
He is it.  He was, He is, and He is to come.  He is to be taken seriously.  He is BEFORE all, we are because of Him.  He is the name above all names.  He is the King of King’s the Lord of Lord’s – He is on the throne.  He is the ruler; He’s got everything under control.    Do you truly respect and honor God in your life?  Do you submit to His authority?

Rebekah wraps up the week, watch this video…

We invite you to share your insights and thoughts by leaving a comment below or by replying to another comment.

If you would like, you can unpack the verse S.O.A.P style:
S = Scripture; what is it that I’m reflecting upon.
O = Observation; what does this mean to me, what do I notice?  What got my attention? Can I rephrase this in my own words?
A = Application; how can I apply this into my life?  What action can I take as a result of what I just learned
P = Prayer; based on what I’ve learned and my application/action, pray – talk to God about your insight, ask for help, offer thanksgiving.

just taking it all in this morning — His greatness!

S: Colossians 1:16-17 NIV For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

O: We see a place “in heaven” and on earth. It says for IN him all things were created. This represents to me, He is a part of everything — He is the source. Then, its says FOR HIM…so we all have ONE purpose…to live for Him. We are His hands and His feet, we are all members of His body — He’s the “head” that holds it all together. I really like the message version of this verse, “Everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him. He was there before any of it came into existence and holds it all together right up to this moment.” <– right up to this moment…moment by moment — He holds it together, His plan is superior. He came to this earth to live amongst us — He revealed Himself through Jesus, His One and only son — to reveal who He is. Heaven walked the earth so we could see the way.

A: This drives the point home for me…which art in heaven — heaven is the presence of God. It’s a place, but He is everywhere and He is “heaven.” I long to see Him in everything, in others, and in experiences daily. I desire to understand and draw near to Him through His example, His son — embracing His character.

P: Father, my prayer this morning is short and simple. My I be still and know. You are it, may I never lose sight of who You are. Thank You for revealing Yourself to me everyday. I need You. I love You. T

“Embracing His CHARACTER” -> I love this, because it’s why we’re doing this. It’s why we study and learn about HIM. Our goal is to become like HIM! I’m so thankful He chose to reveal Himself to us…

S: Colossians 1:16-17 NIV For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

O: WOW! He is above everything, He is the cause, we are the effect. He is the Creator, we are the creation, we exist because of HIM. Our purpose is worship, bring praise and honor and glory to Him. It’s why we’re here, and it’s what we will do for all eternity. Our mission is to proclaim. We are His messengers, His body -> We have a calling to fulfill. We’re not called to do this in our own strength. He “holds it all together.” He guides us and directs us and strengthens us to do His work. Our lives are to be a testimony of His GREATNESS!
A: I am the result of HIM. He made me for His pleasure and purpose…am I don’t want to let Him down. I was made to praise and proclaim -> this requires focus and action and attention to His working in my life.
P: “O great God of highest heaven
    Occupy my lowly heart
Own it all and reign supreme
    Conquer every rebel power
Let no vice or sin remain
    That resists Your holy war
You have loved and purchased me
Make me Yours forevermore.” -Sovereign Grace
