Week 3 – Monday

Exodus 3:14 KJV  “And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM…”

It may seem strange to begin our study of God’s name with this verse, but it is foundational to who God is. This Scripture is often misunderstood and overlooked as a reference to the name of God. God is showing us that we cannot wrap His existence up into one concise name. It is referring to His eternal, omnipotent sovereignty, and He is declaring His ever-present existence. This breathtaking statement made by God Himself to Moses is one of the most powerful names of our God found in the Bible. Reflect on the reality of this Name. If God is omnipotent and sovereign, how should this impact your level of trust in HIM?

We invite you to share your insights and thoughts by leaving a comment below or by replying to another comment.

If you would like, you can unpack the verse S.O.A.P style:
S = Scripture; what is it that I’m reflecting upon.
O = Observation; what does this mean to me, what do I notice?  What got my attention? Can I rephrase this in my own words?
A = Application; how can I apply this into my life?  What action can I take as a result of what I just learned
P = Prayer; based on what I’ve learned and my application/action, pray – talk to God about your insight, ask for help, offer thanksgiving.

    HE IS!! Love this…

S: Exodus 3:14 KJV “And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM…”

O: My very first thought is Don’t mess with ME!! lol The NIV version say, “God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” < -- Who is He? He's IT! Theres nothing before Him, He's the source the top, the creator, the most high, the most powerful. His Hallowed name is above ALL names. So simple to say, yet SO hard to grasp, to wrap my hands around His greatness. His purity. Each day I am in awe of the I AM!

A: The second part of the verse is what I needed to hear this morning...the I AM has sent me...that's WHO!! As I sit here this morning, just got back last night from the most amazing conference She Speaks, there is no question to the calling in my life and the message God has put on my heart. The details are not crystal clear, I'm ok with that, but what is crystal clear is my WHY --> HIM!! Hallowed be thy name…He is what I need to always remember — I AM has sent me. That’s why, I wrote the book. That’s why I facilitate The Ultimate Journey. That’s why I speak. Because HE SPOKE. I listened {finally!!} and I need to respond in obedience to the GREAT I AM!

P: Father, thank You for this profound word this morning. My one word for the weekend was HIM and now this morning as I sit here hearing whispers from you before I go out and hear shouts from the world — the one word is YOU — I am that I am! You are!! Never let ME separate myself from YOU. Open my eyes to see, my ears to hear, my heart to know IF something, some blockage tries to sneak into my life that would trip me up. You show up in everything and I see You. Thank You for loving me so much. Thank You for choosing me before I chose You. I need YOU and am grateful for every moment you give me. Forgive me for not recognizing my gifts — forgive me when I’m tempted to compare the special packages You’ve hand picked for ME with those You’ve hand picked for others. Give me the strength to remain content and to always look up when I feel the pull to look down and around. Shine through me today Father. May my words be invisible so Your words are visible to others — may others see and feel You when they interact with me. Lets do today together. I love You! T

Exodus 3:14 KJV “And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM…”

God is telling Moses something very beautiful and amazing here….and it is not just for Moses, it is for every one of us. God is reminding us that HE is IT. signed, sealed, delivered. enough. enough. God is ALL and that is enough. i am overwhelmed at the thought and my feeble mind cannot really comprehend it. but my spirit cries out and just ‘gets this’ and that is HIS Holy spirit working within me. blessed be His name.

‘hallowed be they name’. and I yearn to have the faith to say these words even times of struggle and disappointment, when i don’t feel His blessings, when life presses down and chokes out any energy that i pray to find…when days are dark and i am weak…i desperately want to have the faith to say ‘ hallowed be they name’. sometimes God’s ways are not our ways…but i have been walking here long enough to see how He works out for the good…hold on. hold on this truth. He is GOOD and HE IS ALL. He really is that GREAT I AM.

Father, life can rip the joy right out of a persons heart. this world is a sometimes difficult place. lonely and dark….the feeling of nothing to hold on to…but when i place my faith in YOU and i have YOUR promise here that YOU are the great I AM…that I AM…i know i am not alone here. i have YOUR spirit within me, around me, and upon me. You are my rock, my everything. my foundation is in YOU, the great I AM. surround me today as i walk this path of uncertainty. calm my heart and help me to keep my eyes on you and not on my circumstances. i love you father…thank you for being the GREAT I AM….and i am continually humbled that you reach down to love me. xo amen

S: “God replied to Moses, ” I AM WHO I AM. Say this to the people of Israel. I AM has sent me to you.” Exodus 3:14 NLT

O: I think of the time that this occurs, and the world and the culture that existed. They had many gods, and prayed for different things with different ones. I think Moses was asking…who do I tell them you are/ They have so many gods. And our Father answered as He should and would…I AM. There is no need for anything else. I am the highest. I am the truth. I am the mighty. I am the ONLY.

A: I think of our world today. All that grabs for our attention to make us happy: relationships, careers, drugs/alcohol, media….and the list goes on. Our gods that the world looks to for happiness, for answers. All our false gods. However we have all we need in one, Our God, Our Heavenly Father. He is who he is. We need nothing else.

P: My heavely Father who I love and adore. You are all that I need. All my completeness, all that is good, all that is true and right comes only from YOU. When I lose focus please bring me back, please remind me of the source of all that I need. Thank you for all that you have done. Your name is holy, your name is above all. I love you Father. I thank you Father. And I am sorry for the times that my attention is focused on any god of this world. All my attention should be on you.

  4. Rebekah says:

I needed this Scripture & Reflection today…and I needed all of your S.O.A.P.’s. they have lifted me up, thank you ALL!

S: Exodus 3:14 KJV “And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM…”

O: In this simple statement, God is establishing, affirming, and confirming for ME His eternality. He has been, He IS, and He will be FOREVER. This promise wraps me up today. He will never change.

A: I can trust. I MUST trust! It’s my hope, it’s my future, and it is SURE.

P: Father, I come to you, needing your arms to enfold me, needing your voice to reassure me, and needing to find my identity in YOU. Thank you for WHO you are. Thank you for remaining. Help me to trust and not be afraid….
