The Lord’s Prayer: Week 1 – Wednesday

WELCOME! If you’re new and just joining us, start here — if not, read below…

Week 1 – Wednesday

SCRIPTURE
Isaiah 9:6 ESV  “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

REFLECT
Here we see in the prediction by the prophet Isaiah that the baby born in the manger whom we celebrate at Christmas time would be coming to be our Everything. He was coming to be our “everlasting FATHER.” He has fulfilled that prophesy, and has adopted those who are His.  How do feel about these strong descriptive words of our Father?  Do you see Him this way?  Why or why not?

We invite you to share your insights and thoughts by leaving a comment below or by replying to another comment.

If you would like, you can unpack the verse S.O.A.P style:
S = Scripture; what is it that I’m reflecting upon.
O = Observation; what does this mean to me, what do I notice?  What got my attention? Can I rephrase this in my own words?
A = Application; how can I apply this into my life?  What action can I take as a result of what I just learned
P = Prayer; based on what I’ve learned and my application/action, pray – talk to God about your insight, ask for help, offer thanksgiving.

    My reflection…

S: Isaiah 9:6 ESV “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

O: I’ve heard this verse SO many times {here and in the Matthew} and have never really given it much thought. How crazy people of “those times” must’ve thought this statement was — I don’t know, I’m just thinking that if today someone would say to me that a baby would be born who would “SAVE” the world I would think they were losin’ it. Today, I wholeheartedly believe in the Trinity — Our Father God, Son, Holy Spirit — these words used to describe Him, Our Father, give me confidence about who He is and what He is capable of doing. His majesty. King of Kings. Lord of Lords. I’ve experienced His power, the Mighty God in my life. He’s given me peace in the midst of storms, Prince of Peace. The Holy Spirit is the Wonderful Counselor, and He was, and is, and is to come, He’s the Everlasting Father. He’s solid as a rock.

A: How GREAT is our God. WITH God ALL things are possible. I want to always remember His greatness in my life. The everyday miracles of who He is. I want to rest with confidence that with Him and Him through me there is no fear, we are a team — I am His beloved daughter, the apple of His eye.

P: ALL Mighty God, Father. I am in AWE of your goodness, your love for me…little me. I feel Your presence consistently in my life. Thank You for the healing only You could offer to my life. I am a new person because of what You’ve done in me, my heart, my mind. I never want to be apart from your presence again…it’s a dark and lonely place to be. I remember. I need You to sustain the peace that passes all understanding and the indescribable joy I feel down deep in my heart. Forgive me for the times that I think it’s me — may I ALWAYS remember it’s not, it’s You. I want to continue to grow, may I always remain teachable. Open my eyes to see, my ears to hear, and my heart to know what Your will is for my life. Lead me today…give me the words to say in each conversation – I simply want to be a light into the lives of others, shine through me. Love You. T

S: Isaiah 9:6 ESV “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

    O: Born… Given… Called… For Us…
“My” Wonderful Counselor, “My” Mighty God, “My” Everlasting Father, “My” Prince of Peace
It’s easy to read words and brush over them quickly as we do so many other things in our daily lives. Not stopping to focus on what God is saying to us. Often, not believing the words are for us…personally. But, this morning, as I focus on Isaiah 9:6, I am choosing to claim it. I am choosing to fully embrace the awesome reality that the Gift of “a child”, “a son”, born for us, to us, who carries the universe on His shoulders, is my Wonderful Counselor ~ Mighty God ~ Everlasting Father ~ Prince of Peace.

A: SLOW DOWN. SEE (with fresh eyes). CLAIM (the truth). EMBRACE (the reality). STAND IN AWE (of the extravagant love of The Father…My Father)

P: Father, how quietly and humbly You entered this world. What an incredible gift. Thank You for thinking of of us…of me. Thank You for… Knowing my need for a Wonderful Counselor to guide me and help me navigate through this world. Knowing my need for a Mighty God to defend me against my enemy. Knowing my need for an Everlasting Father who loves me unconditionally and is the same “yesterday and today and forever.” Knowing my need for a Prince of Peace to calm the rocky waters and encourage me to carry on. Thank You for giving me eyes to see and a heart to know you. I pray my life will reflect these truths to those around me today. It is with great gratitude that I enter this day knowing You are with me. For Your glory. B.

S: “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (NIV)

O: I notice that this was given to us…the most wonderful precious gift we could have ever asked for or expected. And it was promised before it was delivered. Our Father who knows all, plans all, and can take care of it all. I love all the names we can find for Our Father. This scripture reveals that in this child came a counselor (the Holy Spirit), mighty God and Everlasting Father (our Father) and Prince of Peace (Jesus). All in one…all we need.

A: I apply this in my life because it reminds me a truth revealed to me. I am so thankful for my Father who guided and directed my steps. I was raised a short while in a group who taught me there was no such thing, pounded it in my head. I am so thankful our Heavely Father revealed to me who he really is, and all that he is capable of.

P: Thank you Father for hearing my calls as a youth, wanting to know the truth of who you are and what you wanted for me. I am sorry for the ways I act and fall into the ways of this world. I have all I ever need in you. Thank you for the plans you have for me, even those unrevealed. I love you Father. Thank you for this study and for continuing to grow me in understanding who you are and what the gift I have.

He ALWAYS delivers, doesn’t He — fulfills His promises!! WOW – what a blessing that He opened your eyes to see His truth. He wants US in relationship with Him. I don’t know your story, but how comforting it is that He pursued you. We are SO happy to have you growing with us Terry. =)
