The Lord’s Prayer: Week 1 – Tuesday

WELCOME! If you’re new and just joining us, start here — if not, read below…

Week 1 – Tuesday

SCRIPTURE
1 John 3:1 ESV  “See what kind of love the Father has given to us that we should be called children of God; and so we are.”

REFLECT
Again, just as we saw yesterday, we are reminded that we are God’s children, He is our FATHER and He loves us! This love is like no other. Notice, He gave us this love! We didn’t have to earn it! He loves all of His children, and calls us to do the same – they are our brothers and sisters. How does this intimate relationship of God as our Father affect your view of yourself? Of brothers and sisters in Christ? Of unbelievers?

We invite you to share your insights and thoughts by leaving a comment below or by replying to another comment.

If you would like, you can unpack the verse S.O.A.P style:
S = Scripture; what is it that I’m reflecting upon.
O = Observation; what does this mean to me, what do I notice?  What got my attention? Can I rephrase this in my own words?
A = Application; how can I apply this into my life?  What action can I take as a result of what I just learned
P = Prayer; based on what I’ve learned and my application/action, pray – talk to God about your insight, ask for help, offer thanksgiving.

Good Morning!! What a GREAT verse to reflect upon today. =)

S: 1 John 3:1 ESV “See what kind of love the Father has given to us that we should be called children of God; and so we are.”

O: It’s one things to just HEAR these words in our head, but to really accept them into our hearts and live IN this knowledge of truth is difficult. From a very young age, I’ve heard, “Jesus loves His little children. You are one of them.” But, until I accepted that into my heart – I lived feeling shame, guilt, and condemned. The verse above is the “first” part, part A — the second part B says this {Message Version}, “But that’s also why the world doesn’t recognize us or take us seriously, because it has no idea who He is or what He’s up to.” <– that was ME!! I was in the world, in the wilderness, and didn’t grasp who I really was, because I had NO idea what He was up to…UNTIL I started to dig into the Bible, His word. Until I started to experience Him personally — accept His FREE gift of grace and forgiveness. As I draw near to Him, he draws near to me and now I feel like His beloved daughter. I embrace Him as my loving Father. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I belong to Him.

A: This is a life long relationship. There’s nothing that I need to DO to remain His daughter. But just as in any relationship, for it to flourish and be healthy we must put effort into it. I choose to draw near to my Father. I choose to seek Him first. I choose to continue to grow and learn more about who He is.

P: Father, my heart is filled with joy just thinking about how much You love me. I am your daughter, I desire to put a smile on Your face! Thank you for showing me who You are as each day I draw near to You. Give me the strength to continue on this journey. Lead me today as I parent. Show me how to love my nuggets, I want to love how You love. Forgive me for being short tempered with others at time, fill me up with patience, tolerance, and understanding. Today is going to be a GREAT day!! Multiply my time as my plate is full and I have so much to do. You know my every need, thank you in advance for always meeting me right where I am at. I love you. T

I do think we need to remember the world doesn’t “get it” and be mindful of that when we are sharing about this love we have experienced.

      • Teri says:

Yes, Terry — share His love with compassion and understanding. I like the saying “attraction NOT promotion”

Good morning, everyone! Reflecting today on just how much we are LOVED!

S: 1 John 3:1 ESV “See what kind of love the Father has given to us that we should be called children of God; and so we are.”

O: Once I accept my Father’s love, really accept it, it should change my life! He calls me His child, He CHOSE to love me. I am His. This gift I have been given does carry responsibility — everyone else in God’s family is my brother, my sister. Families look out for each other and encourage each other and dust each other off when they fall. We are loved by God, our Father, who has given us an everlasting covenant of salvation, and all who have entered into that covenant are under His love and protection. They are our allies and we are theirs. We must be true to the covenant.

A: This Fatherly love is something I have been given. It is an unconditional love, yes, but how am I loving Him in return? How am I loving others? I need to live in the reality of my Father’s love to be equipped to love others.

P: Father, thank you for choosing to love me. Thank you for sending your Son to pay for my sins so I could have a relationship with you. Help me to give what I have been given.

    • Terry says:

I liked how you mentioned taking care of our family…good thought.

    • Teri says:

YES Rebekah, I love your statement of, “This gift I have been given does carry responsibility” — SO broad…we must be obedient as His children and submit to what He calls us to do.

  3. Terry says:

S: 1 John 3:1 “See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are!…” NLT

O: The words, how very much our Father loves us stands out for me. When I really sit back and think about how he loves me. I think of all he has done for me, all he has brought me through, all he has helped me with. He loves us beyond the limits of our imagination. I also think about being called his child, and as we shared yesterday, that relationship between child and father, that unconditional love we know and understand in our human capacity with our children….how much more does our heavenly Father love us.

A: I do need to see how much he loves me. I need to focus on all he has done for me. I need to relax in knowing that, day to day, moment by moment. I turned my life over to him, He is my Father who loves with me with a love I can not imagine….what peace that should give me always!

P: Father, I thank you for loving me as you do. I pray for anyone who is reading these words, if they do not know this love we are talking about, I pray you give them the boldness to ask someone, to pray to you. I am so thankful Father for your love, for your Fatherly protection and direction in my life. May I always be reminded of your love, may I remember as I walk out in this world, that I will walk in a way that my heavenly Father will be pleased. Thank you Father.

    • Teri says:

I AGREE Terry — it’s overwhelming when we think about ALL He has done. I look back to just 2 years ago — my life had become a mess, I was hopeless, I didn’t want to live. Today, I AM because of HIM!! He has brought me through. The journey hasn’t been easy, BUT He has been faithful, consistent, and loving. SO gracious with me.

    • Rebekah says:

Terry, YES! We need to “relax” in this knowledge! So much of my life would be easier and more enjoyable if I would do just that!
