Getting to the root

{Photo 207/365}  There IS an art to weeding…getting to the root.  It takes a slow steady hand, a tight pinch at the bottom of what we see coming out from the ground and a strong pull.  Sometimes to get the root out, we need to dig up things around it…soften the dirt a little bit so it loosens the roots and we get them all.  YES, I would consider myself a weed pulling expert as of the end of the day today.  Three hours with 2 other helpers, gardening gloves, and other tools I picked up from the hardware store to help me and we put a dent into the east side of the yard.

The one thing about gardening IS it gives me time to think.  And of course, because all I was seeing was weeds, I thought about weeding — my heart — my life — and how crucial it is to get to the root.  I think of my book, Overcoming the Nevers, the tagline…by gardening your life and nurturing seeds of truth.  My journey.  Not only discovering the roots, but the digging up around the roots.  Softening other areas of my life so that I could more effectively and graciously get to the core.  It was a 3 hour reflection…I actually appreciated the time I spent pulling weeds today.  It’s hard work, but it’s pretty now where the weeds once were.  I know I will have to maintain that area, just like I do in my life (nurturing seeds of truth) — but it’s worth it.  Weeding…it’s not so bad.

NO Joke — we were NOT messing around…7 bags of crusty weeds and I don’t even feel like we made a dent in it.  YUK!

Love this! Extremely insightful! I think sometimes we think of those tasks (like weeding) as bothersome. How many times have I said to myself “Ugh… I could be doing something better!” . But I think God uses those types of tasks. We have nothing else to do but think. Our ears begin to open, and he begins to teach us. He is so wise.

    Thanks Teri!

I know, right? BUT with that simple little prayer you typed, and with a mustard seed of willingness to be open to see what the roots are HE WILL SHOW YOU!! Get ready to take action and go through the “work” it takes to get them up and get ‘em OUT!! Love YOU!! xo
