What is Your Anchor?

I was on twitter yesterday…still not all that familiar with tweeting, just trying to figure it out when I have time; it’s one more “bright shiny” thing that helps me procrastinate, I so do NOT need another distraction!

Anyway, I saw this tweet come through my timeline on twitter:  @leighgray: Do u have ur year verse for 2011 yet? If not, ask Him for it. He will provide! He is good like that!

I loved this tweet!  I re-tweeted it so others who follow my tweets could see it.  What a GREAT idea, a year verse for 2011!  I’m sure this idea isn’t new for some of you, BUT for me?  It is!  I’m not a fan of declaring New Year’s resolutions, but a verse for 2011?  This got me thinking; what could mine be?  What could I use as my anchor?  What truth could I refer back to as I journey through 2011?

As I reflected back over the past year it hit me that I did have an “anchor” for 2010.  Something that kept me grounded, allowed me to move forward when I was stuck, and helped strengthen me when I was weak.  I just hadn’t given it a name like “anchor” nor did I declare it for 2010.  It wasn’t a verse, it was simply this:  When I am willing, He is able.

I constantly rely upon this simple statement to help me maintain an attitude of willingness.  I will keep the reminder handy as I continue to grow, it has been essential for me, but moving into the New Year I’m going to change it up.  I’m choosing a verse to be my anchor; my place to rest upon for 2011:

“Some of the wise will stumble, so that they may be refined, purified and made spotless until the time of the end, for it will still come at the appointed time.” Daniel 11:35

I stumble; I will continue to stumble.  I make mistakes; I will continue to make mistakes.  I am not perfect; I will never be perfect.  When I start to tell myself that I’m not measuring up, If I start to feel that I’m not good enough, when I mess up – I will ground myself in Daniel 11:35.

What will be your anchor for 2011?  Do you have a verse, a quote, a saying that keeps you grounded?  Maybe you have one that stays consistent through the years?  If not, I challenge you to find something and when you do, SHARE it – with ME!!  (I would LOVE to know!)  If you choose to do this and get stuck, remember what @leighgray said in her tweet…….ask Him for it.  He will provide!  He is good like that!

He is!

Hi! Followed your tweet here. Love this idea! I have a “motto” for 2011 – The Year of Joy, however, I didn’t think of a verse and the idea is brilliant!
Right away I do believe I know what that verse is:

“Unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. but if it dies, it produces many seeds.” John 12:24

There is so much meaning and truth behind this verse.

    Thank you for the inspiration!

I loved this post!! I have always walked around with my favorite scripture. The Lord is my Shepard, I shall not want. This Christmas we are really struggling, and the kids won’t be getting much, but I am drilling this scripture into them. I am also getting comfort from the verse otherwise I would be beating myself up over the fact that the tree is looking a little bare.

In all honesty though, throughout the year, the verse that was truly my anchor was For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace. – I Corinthians 14:33

In January my father was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. He went through treatments and the treatment wasn’t taking. In February the Doctor told us to expect that he would be passing within about 6 weeks. I clutched onto the verse, because I couldn’t understand why they were taking him. That verse wss truly the verse for me of 2010. I’m not sure yet of which verse the Lord will give me for 2011, but your post gets me excited to figure it out soon!! :) Great post! Thank you!
